The Doctrine and Ritual of High Magic: A New Translation

Took a chance on this and glad I did. I appreciated how the argument builds steadily from first principles. Will be gifting a copy to a friend.

Was skeptical at first. It rewards patience more than any book I've bought this year. Plenty of passages worth underlining; my copy is already full of margin notes. A few pages arrived with light corner wear, though nothing serious.

This edition finally does the material justice. Some chapters demand a slow, careful read, and that's exactly the point. Would buy from this store again.

I collect works on this subject and this is a worthy addition. It rewards patience more than any book I've bought this year. The text itself is dense but rewarding — you get out what you put in. Already eyeing my next order.

This edition finally does the material justice. Plenty of passages worth underlining; my copy is already full of margin notes. My only quibble is the cover feels thinner than expected. Good, with the caveats above.

This edition successfully bridges the gap between nineteenth-century occult thought and modern readership by offering a faithful restoration of Lévi’s masterwork. The translation’s clarity allows the text’s rigorous philosophy to shine, preserving the original illustrations that are crucial for understanding the mechanics of High Magic. However, it does not suit casual readers or those seeking simple rituals without theoretical depth; the content demands engagement with complex esoteric concepts rather than quick fixes. It is best appreciated by those already familiar with the broader context of Western occultism who wish to examine the primary sources that shaped the field. For dedicated practitioners, the elegance of this presentation makes it a worthy addition to any serious library.
