About the author
S. L. MacGregor Mathers (Samuel Liddell MacGregor Mathers, 1854-1918) was a British occultist and one of the founders of the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn, the influential ceremonial magic society that shaped much of modern Western esotericism. He is best known as a translator and editor of major grimoires, producing the standard English versions of The Key of Solomon the King and The Book of the Sacred Magic of Abramelin the Mage, both still in print from multiple publishers, including recent Digireads.com and Weiser Books editions. His translations, worked from earlier French, Italian, and German manuscripts, introduced these Renaissance and early modern magical texts to English-speaking readers and remain foundational reference works in the study of Western ceremonial magic, tarot, and ritual practice, cited in editions such as The Three Magical Books of Solomon.
