📖 Why choose it
Why this book is worth reading
Scholars and practitioners seeking an unparalleled glimpse into the sophisticated magical infrastructure of the medieval period will find this volume indispensable. It revives one of the most guarded grimoires in Western esotericism, originally bound by oaths of silence to protect its potent workings from religious persecution. Honorius of Thebes presents a comprehensive system for invoking divine visions and commanding spirits across aerial, earthly, and infernal realms. By including the famous Seal of God and references to the spirit-summoning whistle, this translation offers rare access to sealed rituals traditionally attributed to Solomon. It is essential for those wishing to understand how Jewish mysticism influenced European Hermeticism, providing a detailed look at the practical workings and theological underpinnings that defined this specific era of occult study.

My third book from this store and this one might be the best. The symbolism is layered and generous to patient readers. It connects ideas I'd only seen treated separately elsewhere. I'd have loved an index, but that's on the original text. Solid, if not essential.
First purchase from this shop. The language takes some getting used to, but it becomes part of the charm. It reads better in small doses — a chapter at a time with notes. Great value for what you get.
Took a chance on this and glad I did. I appreciated how the argument builds steadily from first principles. Definitely recommend.
Grabbed this during a weekend order. It pairs well with more modern commentaries on the same tradition. The ideas are old but land with surprising force today. Already eyeing my next order.
Came across this title in a footnote and had to track it down. You can tell why this work has endured. It assumes more background than a beginner might have. Good, with the caveats above.
This groundbreaking translation is a significant contribution to the study of Western esotericism, offering a clear window into the complex relationship between Kabbalah and Hermetic magic. However, it does not suit casual readers seeking simple spellbooks or those uninterested in historical religious persecution contexts. The text requires patience for its dense theological framework and sworn oaths that guard its secrets. It is best suited for academics and serious magicians who appreciate the nuance of medieval spiritual infrastructure. Those looking for modern, simplified interpretations may find the rigorous adherence to historical accuracy and the specific focus on angelic invocation too academic or archaic. It demands a respectful engagement with its serious intent.
