📚 WHAT THE BOOK IS ABOUT

Harry Price’s definitive account dissects the legendary Borley Rectory case, moving beyond mere sensationalism to offer a rigorous, albeit controversial, analysis of the phenomena witnessed there. This edition resurrects Price’s original monograph, detailing the relentless poltergeist activity that plagued the clergy and lay residents alike. It explores the psychological underpinnings of the hauntings, the failed exorcisms, and the eventual demolition of the site. With a newly added biography of Price himself, this volume serves as both a historical record and a critical examination of early twentieth-century psychical research, preserving the raw intensity of the investigators' findings for modern seekers.

Fun Fact

Price’s work remains a vital, if polarizing, artifact in occult studies. It excels in its raw documentation of witness accounts, offering a window into early 20th-century investigative techniques. However, modern readers aware of Price’s admitted fabrication of evidence may find the conclusions shaky. It sits firmly as a historical curiosity rather than a definitive proof of the supernatural, best valued for its literary and sociological insight into the spiritualist age.

Occult literature desk

Price’s definitive account provides a rigorous analysis that moves beyond mere sensationalism, offering a valuable historical record for serious students of the occult. However, readers expecting light entertainment or supernatural validation will find little satisfaction here. The text is dense with critical examination and controversial methodologies that may alienate casual ghost hunters. It is not suited for those who prefer folklore over factual investigation or those uncomfortable with the psychological dissection of hauntings. While it preserves the raw intensity of the findings, its academic tone and focus on failed exorcisms make it a niche resource best reserved for dedicated researchers of psychical history rather than general horror enthusiasts seeking thrills.
