Keepers of the Flame: Interviews with Elders of Traditional Witchcraft in America

This exceeded my expectations. It reads better in small doses — a chapter at a time with notes. The print is clean and easy on the eyes for long sessions. Will be gifting a copy to a friend.

This has been on my wishlist for months. Some chapters demand a slow, careful read, and that's exactly the point. The symbolism is layered and generous to patient readers. Five stars from me.

Not my usual area but wanted to branch out. Not a light read, but far more accessible than I feared. Recommended with reservations.

Honestly wasn't sure what to expect, but I'm impressed. Solid binding, decent paper — holds up to heavy use. The font runs small in the appendices. Good, with the caveats above.

Long-time student of the esoteric here. It reads better in small doses — a chapter at a time with notes. Some archaic spellings slow things down. Good, with the caveats above.

This edition finally does the material justice. Plenty of passages worth underlining; my copy is already full of margin notes. Highly recommend to serious students.

Davies succeeds in coaxing essential oral histories from shadows, creating a unique archive of collective wisdom rarely seen in print. However, this text will not suit readers seeking step-by-step spell instructions or modern Wiccan dogma. It is candid about the craft’s emphasis on secrecy, making it inaccessible to those expecting public disclosure or simplified magical techniques. The focus remains strictly on the elders' perspectives and the burden of tradition rather than individual biography. Consequently, casual observers or those looking for quick, actionable rituals will likely find the content too abstract and serious, reserved instead for dedicated students of traditional lineage.
