Chaldean Magic: Its Origin and Development (Revised)

My book club chose this last month. Some chapters demand a slow, careful read, and that's exactly the point.

Needed this for my research. The symbolism is layered and generous to patient readers. I'd have loved an index, but that's on the original text.

Finally got around to ordering this. It's become a regular reference in my practice. Would buy from this store again.

Came across this title in a footnote and had to track it down. The ideas are old but land with surprising force today. Not a light read, but far more accessible than I feared. I'd have loved an index, but that's on the original text. Happy enough with the purchase.

Needed this for my research. The material is presented clearly and the structure makes it easy to revisit key passages. Recommended if you're ready to do the work.

Been hunting for a decent copy of this text for ages. The language takes some getting used to, but it becomes part of the charm. Would buy from this store again.

My third book from this store and this one might be the best. Challenging in places, but never needlessly obscure. You can tell why this work has endured. Delivery took a bit longer than quoted. Good, with the caveats above.

Lenormant’s definitive work offers a rigorous dissection of esoteric frameworks, providing clarity to a dense scholarly exploration of Chaldean magic. However, readers seeking accessible myths or practical modern spells will be disappointed by the academic rigor and focus on ancient Assyrian curses from Nineveh's royal archives. This text is not for those wishing to avoid heavy historical analysis or complex categorizations of incantations. It suits only those prepared to engage with a mechanical examination of spiritual forces rather than narrative entertainment. The value lies in its meticulous translation of palace library formulas, making it a specialized resource for serious researchers of pre-biblical religious systems.
