My book club chose this last month. The symbolism is layered and generous to patient readers. A text you study rather than simply read. Well worth it.
This edition finally does the material justice. I appreciated how the argument builds steadily from first principles. The language takes some getting used to, but it becomes part of the charm. The font runs small in the appendices. Happy enough with the purchase.
Was skeptical at first. Solid binding, decent paper — holds up to heavy use. A keeper.
Been hunting for a decent copy of this text for ages. The typesetting is comfortable for study, with good margins for notes. Some chapters demand a slow, careful read, and that's exactly the point. The font runs small in the appendices. Recommended with reservations.
This volume successfully distills the ecstatic essence of Rumi’s poetry, offering a compelling entry point into Sufi mysticism through the lens of his bond with Shams. The substantial introduction effectively contextualizes their meeting in Konya, grounding the verses in historical reality. However, readers expecting conventional religious instruction or structured theological arguments will likely find it lacking; this is not a guide for doctrinal study but an invitation to spiritual dissolution. It may also alienate those uncomfortable with the intense, non-dualistic depiction of love as a destructive yet creative force. While beautifully curated, its focus on ecstatic union over intellectual analysis means it suits emotional seekers more than academic critics of religious texts.
