This narrative weaves modern criminal investigation with ancient mystical traditions across Southern Europe. When an underwater dig in Malta yields an ancient golden pomegranate filled with Kykeon, archaeologist Monica Bettlheim and esoteric scholar Rafael Pinto find themselves targeted by a crime syndicate. To avenge a murder and solve the mystery, they revive an ancient Eleusinian ritual. The story focuses heavily on the direct ritual consumption of sacred sacraments, integrating Gnostic underground knowledge and historical alchemy into a fast-paced plot involving blackmail, modern refugee crises, and terrifying spiritual revelations.
Praise for this book
“The best part about this book is how it incorporates alchemy, archeology, and entheogens into the plot. While there are countless stories of wizards, magicians, and occult societies dabbling in labs trying to find the Elixir of Life or the Philosopher's Stone, I had never seen alchemy from the lens portrayed in Forbidden Fruits.”

⭐ Reader reviews
Reader rating
This novel attempts a bold synthesis of ancient esotericism and modern thriller elements, appealing to those who enjoy dense historical speculation wrapped in adventure. However, it may not suit readers seeking straightforward factual history or pure action without philosophical weight. Those uncomfortable with psychedelic themes or complex Gnostic theological references might find the narrative overwhelming. The integration of contemporary issues like the refugee crisis alongside ancient mysteries requires a specific taste for juxtaposition that some may find jarring rather than insightful. It is best suited for patients willing to navigate layers of occult symbolism and conspiracy theory without expecting immediate, clear-cut resolutions.
