Fun Fact

This deck excels in bridging the gap between traditional tarot symbolism and active witchcraft, making complex magical concepts accessible through Dugan’s clear guide and Evans’ vivid art. It will disappoint those seeking strict adherence to the Rider-Waite-Smith iconography without alteration. It sits firmly in the niche of contemporary pagan tarot, serving as an essential tool for practitioners who view divination as an active magical act rather than a passive reading.

📝 Description: Witches Tarot

Here, the Hierophant becomes the High Priest, Wheel of Fortune becomes Wheel of the Year, and Judgement becomes Karma. Based on the traditional Rider-Waite-Smith deck and filled with images that speak to today's magickal practitioner, witchcraft takes center stage in this stunning deck designed by highly respected Witch and Tarot reader Ellen Dugan. Featuring the vibrant artwork of award-winning artist Mark Evans, Witches Tarot is the perfect combination of Tarot and the Craft. In addition to card descriptions and meanings, Dugan's companion guide features spell-enhancing spreads--such as the Triple Goddess Spread, the Four Elements Spread, and the Wheel of the Year Spread--that you can use in both Tarot readings and magickal practice. Occult literature desk

The deck successfully centers contemporary witchcraft while honoring the Rider-Waite-Smith foundation, making it a strong addition for active practitioners. However, collectors seeking strict historical fidelity to the original Waite imagery may find the shifts—such as Karma replacing Judgement—disruptive. Similarly, readers preferring detached, purely academic tarot analysis might miss the integrated magical context. The companion guide’s spell layouts are practical but require an openness to 'living' magic. It is not suited for traditionalists who view the Minor Arcana or Major Arcana as immutable historical artifacts rather than evolving symbols of personal power and cyclical time.

Exceeded expectations

Needed this for my research. The text itself is dense but rewarding — you get out what you put in. Five stars from me.

Ordered this after seeing it referenced in another book I was studying. Every rereading turns up something I missed. Recommended if you're ready to do the work.
