Match the book to the deck on your table
Check the deck or system named in the description before comparing page counts. A book organised around a particular set of illustrations may be difficult to use with a deck that changes the imagery, titles or suit names. Sample pages should show how the author moves from the picture to an interpretation.
For a first reference, look for coverage of both Major and Minor Arcana, court cards and suit structure. Check the product format carefully: a book about a deck is not necessarily a boxed set containing the cards.

Prefer explained examples to a dictionary of meanings
A practice-oriented book should demonstrate complete readings, including the question, card positions and the reasoning connecting the cards. Look for exercises you can revisit and a discussion of uncertainty, rather than fixed answers presented as inevitable outcomes.
