Fun Fact

Smith’s artistry shines in this portable format, offering undeniable tactile charm and historical fidelity. It excels as a travel companion or gift for initiates. It sits firmly as an essential, accessible entry point into the Waite tradition, beloved for its convenience and scholarly backing.

📝 Description: Pocket Rider-Waite(r) Tarot

Originally created in 1909 by artist Pamela Colman Smith under Arthur Edward Waite, this set contains seventy-eight cards featuring complete pictorial scenes throughout the Major and Minor Arcana. The vibrant illustrations incorporate universal symbolism that established a benchmark for hundreds of subsequent decks worldwide. Ranked among the Top Ten Tarot Decks of All Time by Aeclectic Tarot, this edition comes in a compact size measuring 2.97 centimeters high by 9.55 centimeters long by 6.2 centimeters wide and weighing 0.32 pounds, published by U. S. Games Systems, Inc. Inside the box, the deck includes a printed instruction booklet detailing upright meanings, reversed interpretations, and keyword guides for readings, alongside introductory remarks written by tarot expert Stuart R. Kaplan. Colman Smith drew on symbolic traditions to illustrate every card, making the imagery readable through visual scenes rather than simple suit symbols alone. This deck suits both tarot beginners and experienced readers who need a portable set for their collection. It does not suit readers who require Media Mail delivery, as the item is ineligible for that shipping method and is non-returnable.

Occult literature desk

This compact edition successfully preserves the iconic Rider-Waite-Smith illustrations, offering complete pictorial narratives on all seventy-eight cards. Stuart R. Kaplan’s guide provides necessary context for upright and reversed meanings, catering well to those seeking clarity in divination. However, collectors or purists who prefer traditional pip cards filled with abstract symbols may find these rich scenes overly literal or distracting from their preferred interpretive frameworks. Additionally, the miniature format, while convenient, might challenge readers with visual impairments due to the reduced scale of intricate esoteric details. It is not suited for those seeking expansive scholarly criticism or alternative deck structures.

Deep and rewarding

Needed this for my research. The historical context alone makes it worth the price. Great value for what you get.

Arrived faster than expected and well packaged. A text you study rather than simply read. There's real depth here that reveals itself on a second reading. Still worth having on the shelf.

Good but demanding

I collect works on this subject and this is a worthy addition. The text itself is dense but rewarding — you get out what you put in. You can tell why this work has endured. I'd have loved an index, but that's on the original text. Good, with the caveats above.

Mixed feelings

Been hunting for a decent copy of this text for ages. I appreciated how the argument builds steadily from first principles. The typesetting is comfortable for study, with good margins for notes.
