⭐ Reader reviews
Reader rating
As someone who reads a lot in this field, I can be picky. The text itself is dense but rewarding — you get out what you put in. I found myself reading passages aloud just to sit with them. The font runs small in the appendices. Still worth having on the shelf.
As someone who reads a lot in this field, I can be picky. I appreciated how the argument builds steadily from first principles. Recommended with reservations.
This edition finally does the material justice. It reads better in small doses — a chapter at a time with notes. You can tell why this work has endured. Shipping was quick too.
Took a chance on this and glad I did. The symbolism is layered and generous to patient readers. Recommended if you're ready to do the work.
Greer’s volume is a refreshing departure from dry theoretical texts, offering twenty-one distinct, actionable methods to revitalize your tarot work. By blending intuitive wisdom with practical exercises, she successfully dismantles the fear of 'wrong' interpretations. However, this book may not suit readers seeking strict adherence to traditional Rider-Waite-Smith symbolism or those who prefer a purely academic, historical analysis of tarot history. It is designed for the interactive practitioner, not the passive observer. Those looking for rigid dogma will find it lacking, but others will find profound utility in its invitation to create a vibrant, personal relationship with their cards.

This approach fosters a dynamic relationship between the reader and the deck, ensuring each session feels fresh and personally relevant through participatory techniques.
Symbolic Synthesis
Greer treats the twenty-one methods like alphabetic letters, combinable to form infinite meanings. This theme highlights the flexibility of tarot symbolism, showing how traditional archetypes can be mixed with personal metaphors. It teaches readers to construct custom interpretations, moving beyond fixed definitions to create nuanced, context-specific readings that resonate deeply with the querent.
Empowerment Through Creativity
The book positions creativity as a spiritual tool. By integrating storytelling and artistic exercises, it aims to heal and empower the reader.
