This exceeded my expectations. You can tell why this work has endured. The font runs small in the appendices.
Bought this as a gift for my sister and ended up ordering a second copy for myself. Some sections stopped me cold in the best way. It pairs well with more modern commentaries on the same tradition. A keeper.
Voss provides a compelling re-examination of Ficino as a bridge between sacred faith and pagan magic, arguing he transformed astrology into a tool for psychological integration. This biography is essential for scholars and enthusiasts of Renaissance humanism who wish to understand the harmonization of Christian theology with hermetic practices. However, readers seeking a straightforward historical timeline or those uninterested in the philosophical underpinnings of occult thought may find the dense intellectual analysis less engaging. It does not cater to those preferring simple biographical narratives over complex theological and magical synthesis.
