📝 Description: Living On: How Consciousness Continues and Evolves After Death

As a long-standing member of the Society for Psychical Research and President of the College for Psychic Studies, Paul Beard was an authority on psychical research and in particular the study of life after death. He wrote numerous books on the subject including his trilogy, Survival Of Death, Living On, and Hidden Man, followed by Inner Eye, Listening Ear. During his lifetime study the author followed the evidence wherever it took him; 'sitting' with many mediums he gained their confidence and meticulously recorded what he discovered. The result is a comprehensive account of our most important questions; Why are we here? Do we have a karmic footprint? What happens after we physically die? As a result of his studies Beard was enthusiastic about his impending death. In 1986, three years before his passing he wrote: "Whatever is learned on earth, or we think has been learned, the path still winds forward, the quest goes on. The horizons extend, not diminish." "I have been greatly impressed by this book. It deals persuasively and sensibly with a very difficult subject... It is well organized, well written, and perceptive." Brian Inglis, author of Natural and Supernatural. "Beard has in a truly masterly fashion analysed and provided a sensible, sane, reassuring picture of a psychic universe that is just, compassionate, caring and loving. This book has valuable and deserves to be widely read, even by sceptics like myself." Prof. Archie Roy, Professor Emeritus of Astronomy in the University of Glasgow.

Beard’s dedication to documenting mediumship sittings provides a unique window into spiritualist thought, yet this very commitment may alienate readers seeking quick answers or purely metaphysical speculation without empirical backing. Skeptics who demand traditional scientific methodology over psychical research data will likely find the reliance on mediumistic accounts unconvincing. Additionally, those preferring abstract theology over the specific narrative of personal survival and karmic accumulation might feel constrained by the book’s focus on the individual soul’s journey. It is not suitable for readers who view spiritualism as mere fraud or superstition, nor for those who prefer concise dogmatic statements over complex, anecdotal evidence. However, for open-minded seekers willing to engage with dense, experience-based arguments, it offers a compelling, if specific, perspective on death.
