Alex Prager: Silver Lake Drive: (Photography Books, Coffee Table Photo Books, Contemporary Art Books)
A hardcover collection of Alex Prager's staged photographic narratives and major commissions.
This volume functions as a comprehensive survey of Prager’s career milestones. It does not offer abstract theory but presents concrete examples of her craft. The inclusion of La Grande Sortie connects her work to the world of opera, while the Polyester series grounds it in earlier experiments. The Face in the Crowd project reveals the logistical scale behind her seemingly intimate scenes. Readers can observe how she balances familiarity with strangeness across different mediums and locations. The book avoids dense academic text, allowing the images and their contexts to speak for themselves. It is designed for those who appreciate the intersection of film techniques and still photography.
Published by Chronicle Books in 2018, this work sits within contemporary art photography. It reflects Prager’s ongoing exploration of narrative and performance in modern visual arts.

This edition finally does the material justice. Some sections stopped me cold in the best way. One of my better finds this year.
Grabbed this during a weekend order. The print is clean and easy on the eyes for long sessions. Some archaic spellings slow things down. Solid, if not essential.
Came across this title in a footnote and had to track it down. Every rereading turns up something I missed. The text itself is dense but rewarding — you get out what you put in. Deserves a place on any esoteric bookshelf.
I collect works on this subject and this is a worthy addition. I appreciated how the argument builds steadily from first principles. Happy enough with the purchase.
