The Folklore History Series presents academic examinations of historical beliefs regarding the supernatural and legal proceedings against those accused of witchcraft. The volumes included here focus on distinct geographic and thematic areas within British history. G F Black provides detailed records of trials in the Orkney and Shetland islands, offering a localized perspective on these events. Walter Scott contributes an analysis of demonology and witchcraft within Scotland more broadly. These works serve as primary resources for understanding the legal and cultural frameworks that defined witchcraft accusations in different regions. The series does not offer a single narrative but rather specialized studies that complement one another through their specific regional focuses.
