Been hunting for a decent copy of this text for ages. Some chapters demand a slow, careful read, and that's exactly the point. The text itself is dense but rewarding — you get out what you put in. I'd have loved an index, but that's on the original text. Good, with the caveats above.
Been hunting for a decent copy of this text for ages. Some sections stopped me cold in the best way. The font runs small in the appendices. Happy enough with the purchase.
I collect works on this subject and this is a worthy addition. Not a light read, but far more accessible than I feared. Five stars from me.
A friend in my study group recommended this one. The material is presented clearly and the structure makes it easy to revisit key passages. It rewards patience more than any book I've bought this year. Deserves a place on any esoteric bookshelf.
As someone who reads a lot in this field, I can be picky. Some chapters demand a slow, careful read, and that's exactly the point. Plenty of passages worth underlining; my copy is already full of margin notes. The font runs small in the appendices. Solid, if not essential.
Exactly what I was looking for. A text you study rather than simply read. Definitely recommend.
First purchase from this shop. The language takes some getting used to, but it becomes part of the charm. Plenty of passages worth underlining; my copy is already full of margin notes. Still worth having on the shelf.
Sunstone Press presents an interpretative study of Lakota spirituality, though the edition's sparse publisher notes leave specific contents and structural details largely unknown to the cataloguer. Judging strictly by its place on the occult philosophy shelf, it approaches its subject with analytical curiosity rather than purely historical record. However, this text will not suit strict ethnographers, academic anthropologists, or readers seeking primary-source tribal accounts free from outside interpretation. Those looking for exhaustive biographical or narrative detail should look elsewhere. It remains best suited for esoteric generalists, collectors of comparative shamanism, and readers interested in how Native American spiritual principles have been framed within the broader context of Western esoteric bookshelf traditions.
