As someone who reads a lot in this field, I can be picky. The language takes some getting used to, but it becomes part of the charm. There's real depth here that reveals itself on a second reading. Some archaic spellings slow things down. Good, with the caveats above.
Finally got around to ordering this. The text itself is dense but rewarding — you get out what you put in. It reads better in small doses — a chapter at a time with notes. Highly recommend to serious students.
Was skeptical at first. The typesetting is comfortable for study, with good margins for notes. Challenging in places, but never needlessly obscure. Will be gifting a copy to a friend.
Bremner effectively bridges the gap between antiquity and the present, offering a refreshing perspective on self-improvement through historical analysis. However, readers seeking rigorous academic scholarship or dry historical data will find this text lacking in depth. It is not suitable for those who prefer purely theoretical occultism without practical application. The book shines when it connects past wisdom to modern personal challenges, providing clear, actionable advice. While the premise is engaging, some may find the reliance on 'forgotten sages' to be somewhat generalized rather than deeply researched. Ultimately, it serves as a motivational tool for those ready to apply timeless truths to their current lives.
