About the author
Sandra Dooling is the author of Haunted Houses! and Sorcerers, Spells, and Magic!, both published by PowerKids Press as part of a nonfiction series for young readers. Haunted Houses! introduces reported ghost sightings and the sensory details associated with them, such as sounds, smells and sudden chills, through descriptions of specific reputedly haunted locations. Sorcerers, Spells, and Magic! surveys historical and legendary figures associated with sorcery, from Merlin to the Elizabethan-era astrologers John Dee and Edward Kelley, explaining how such figures came to be viewed as sorcerers in their own time. Both books present folklore and history for a school-age audience, using short, illustrated entries aimed at introducing young readers to ghost stories and the history of magical belief rather than at adult readers of the same subjects.
