The Secret Teachings of All Ages: which edition to buy
Manly P. Hall published The Secret Teachings of All Ages in 1928 as a large folio illustrated with colour plates by J. Augustus Knapp. Today it comes in two quite different forms: large illustrated editions that reproduce the plates, and compact editions made for reading.

How to choose
For reading, the compact Reader's Edition from Tarcher (2003) keeps Hall's full text in an ordinary book size, with the illustrations in black and white. It is the edition most students carry.
For the art, choose a large-format edition. Knapp's colour plates are a large part of the book's appeal, and at paperback size they lose most of their detail.
Low-cost reprints of the original vary widely in print quality. If a listing says nothing about illustrations, assume the plates are missing or reproduced poorly.
