Clendenin offers a straightforward entry point into spiritualism without heavy academic jargon. The text focuses on the nature of spirit communication and subtle energies, making it accessible for casual readers interested in the supernatural. However, those seeking rigorous historical analysis or complex metaphysical theory may find the content too general. It is not a practical manual for ritual work but rather an invitation to consider the unseen world. Readers looking for deep scholarly critique should look elsewhere.
Arrived faster than expected and well packaged. The historical context alone makes it worth the price. One of my better finds this year.
Been hunting for a decent copy of this text for ages. It pairs well with more modern commentaries on the same tradition. There's real depth here that reveals itself on a second reading. Solid, if not essential.
Grabbed this during a weekend order. It's become a regular reference in my practice. Deserves a place on any esoteric bookshelf.
My book club chose this last month. It reads better in small doses — a chapter at a time with notes. Deserves a place on any esoteric bookshelf.
This exceeded my expectations. The text itself is dense but rewarding — you get out what you put in. It connects ideas I'd only seen treated separately elsewhere. If you're drawn to this subject, don't hesitate.
