📚 ABOUT THE BOOK

A whimsical guide to spirit-world glimpses, weaving poetry, fables, and laughter into spiritual awakening.

Hewlett offers a gentle, unconventional entry into spiritualism, rejecting the solemnity often associated with mediumship. Through a collection of lighthearted poems, allegorical fables, and personal reflections, he argues that joy and compassion are as vital as psychic phenomena. The text invites readers to view themselves as spirits in physical forms, encouraging a journey of self-discovery that prioritizes moral goodness and gratitude. Rather than demanding serious dogma, Hewlett suggests that maintaining a sense of humor and love is essential for navigating the mysteries of the afterlife and our earthly destiny.

This work sits within the late Victorian and early modern spiritualist tradition, yet deliberately subverts its typical solemnity by embracing whimsy and humor as valid spiritual tools. It reflects a period where the boundaries between poetic expression, moral philosophy, and mediumship were often explored through unconventional, personal lenses rather than rigid dogma.

📝 Description: Simply Spiritual

Unfortunately, I am not one of your great mediums but I have been blessed to have seen into the spirit world. These inspired spiritual writings are diverse, to say the least. Some mediums have said it's because various guides wanted to 'have their say'. I leave that for you to question. I have written fables and a few personal observations and poems of a light hearted nature. After all, we are alive and kicking, and to live without laughter must be like living without love. Spiritualism is not only about the hereafter, it encompasses love and compassion for others: The acceptance of differing opinions, providing they are morally good, and our gratitude for the life we have been given. If you take on board that you are spirit in an earth-bound body, that should be reason enough for you wanting to grow, and perhaps experience personal knowledge of spirit world which is a reward almost beyond belief. Our spiritual journey is an exploration of learning and discovery: Perhaps for most of us to know of our destiny, but on your way, don't be too serious, enjoy. My aim in writing this book is in the hope that someone, somewhere, will always refer to these pages and be able to smile or gain spiritual comfort. I hope that person is you.

While Hewlett’s lighthearted style provides a welcoming gateway to spiritualism, it is not for everyone. Readers seeking rigorous academic analysis, detailed historical accounts of séances, or traditional religious doctrine will likely find this text too whimsical and lacking in substance. The reliance on fables and poetry may frustrate those who prefer direct philosophical argumentation or scientific skepticism regarding the spirit world. However, for those open to a poetic interpretation of existence, it succeeds beautifully in its goal of demystifying the afterlife through love and humor rather than awe-inspiring terror.

Finally got around to ordering this. Solid binding, decent paper — holds up to heavy use. The language takes some getting used to, but it becomes part of the charm.

Deep and rewarding

I collect works on this subject and this is a worthy addition. A text you study rather than simply read. I found myself reading passages aloud just to sit with them. A keeper.

Finally got around to ordering this. Some sections stopped me cold in the best way. The symbolism is layered and generous to patient readers. It assumes more background than a beginner might have. Happy enough with the purchase.

Excellent find

Came across this title in a footnote and had to track it down. There's real depth here that reveals itself on a second reading. Plenty of passages worth underlining; my copy is already full of margin notes. Great value for what you get.

Not for beginners

Exactly what I was looking for. The text itself is dense but rewarding — you get out what you put in. Some chapters demand a slow, careful read, and that's exactly the point. Solid, if not essential.

My new favorite

Bought this as a gift for my sister and ended up ordering a second copy for myself. The text itself is dense but rewarding — you get out what you put in. Every rereading turns up something I missed. Five stars from me.

Exceeded expectations

My third book from this store and this one might be the best. Not a light read, but far more accessible than I feared. Recommended if you're ready to do the work.
