Praise for this book

“Very seldom can an author successfully pen a dark mystery novel while showing so many of his cards yet leaving a great deal to the imagination. But that's exactly Gene O'Neill's style in SHADOW OF THE DARK ANGEL.”

— Dark Scribe Magazine

“Likened to Thomas Harris' Hannibal Lector books--Katy Green and John Cato are a team of detectives hunting a sexual serial killer.... filled with explicitly fleshed out characters.”

Occult literature desk

The novel effectively merges occult themes with crime fiction, creating a distinct atmosphere of dread. However, readers who prefer strictly realistic police procedurals without supernatural elements may find the premise jarring or implausible. Those uninterested in detailed explorations of foster care trauma might feel the pacing drags during character background segments. The reliance on an untraceable phantom killer could frustrate fans of tightly plotted mysteries with clear forensic solutions. Nevertheless, for those who embrace genre-blending narratives, the tension between detective work and dark angel influence provides a compelling, if somewhat niche, reading experience that balances horror with investigation.
