While Shatkins delivers accessible and intriguing tales suitable for casual readers and tourists, this book is not intended for academic historians or skeptics demanding rigorous empirical evidence. It lacks the literary density expected by serious occultists, focusing instead on narrative appeal and local color. Readers looking for complex philosophical discussions on spiritualism will likely find it too superficial.
