📝 Description: Haitian Vodou: An Introduction to Haiti's Indigenous Spiritual Tradition

Mambo Chita Tann offers a clear introduction to Haitian Vodou in this accessible volume. As a mambo asogwe with over twenty years of teaching experience, she draws on her background as an Egyptologist and spiritual leader of the Kemetic Orthodox Faith to present the tradition with authority. The text begins by examining how Haiti and its spiritual practices developed, then outlines the basic principles and ethics that guide followers. It explicitly addresses common misconceptions and controversies surrounding the faith. The core of the book details the twenty-one nations of the Lwa, divided into distinct sections for the Rada, Petro, and Gede spirits, along with other entities. Tann explains the structure of ceremonies and rites of passage, including the practice of serving the Lwa and the nature of Haitian Vodou magic known as Wanga. Readers also learn about the Vodou family system, initiation processes, and practical steps for beginning their own practice. The volume includes a glossary, a historical timeline of Haiti, corresponding Catholic prayers, and a table of correspondences for the spirits.
