Step into the meticulously documented world of L. L. Vasiliev, a pioneering Russian psychologist, as he unveils his groundbreaking scientific investigations into distant mental influence. This volume provides a detailed account of experiments designed to explore how one mind might affect another without conventional sensory input. Vasiliev's work rigorously examines the capacity for mental suggestion to elicit specific motor responses, conjure visual and sensory experiences, and even induce states of sleep in subjects from afar, challenging conventional understandings of consciousness and communication.

💎 Expert review
📖 Why choose it
Why this book is worth reading
Readers fascinated by the intersection of psychology and paranormal phenomena will find this text invaluable. It offers a rare, meticulous look into how early scientists attempted to quantify the unquantifiable, specifically focusing on long-distance mental influence. Those interested in the history of consciousness studies or the roots of modern psychic research will appreciate Vasiliev’s systematic approach. The book serves as a foundational resource for understanding how distant mental suggestion was historically tested and documented, providing deep insight into the scientific community's struggle to define and prove non-local communication.
⭐ Reader reviews
Reader rating
This volume is a dense, academic record of experiments that may bore general readers seeking narrative flair or quick answers. It is not suitable for those expecting mystical instruction or casual reading; it demands patience for detailed descriptions of motor responses and sensory induction in subjects. While intellectually stimulating for historians of science, the dry, technical nature of Vasiliev’s documentation limits its appeal to a niche audience. Readers looking for accessible spiritual guides should look elsewhere, as this text prioritizes rigorous data over engaging prose or practical application.
❓ Frequently asked questions
📖 Who should read this
If you are fascinated by the scientific exploration of psychic phenomena, a student of parapsychology, or simply curious about the unexplored potential of the human mind, this book offers a rare, detailed glimpse into pioneering research. It's for those who appreciate rigorous inquiry into the extraordinary.
🎯 Key themes and symbolism
Scientific Parapsychology
Vasiliev championed a rigorous, empirical approach to phenomena often relegated to the mystical. This work stands as a testament to early efforts in applying scientific methodology to the study of psychic abilities, moving beyond anecdotal evidence to controlled experimental conditions in exploring mental suggestion.
Distant Mental Influence
At its core, the book delves into the profound concept of telepathy and non-local consciousness. It details experiments where mental commands or thoughts were seemingly transmitted across significant distances, impacting subjects' minds and bodies without any known physical medium, opening avenues for new understanding of consciousness.
Inducing Altered States
A significant portion of Vasiliev's research focuses on the fascinating ability to induce specific physiological and psychological states through mental suggestion. Readers will find detailed accounts of experiments aimed at generating sleep, specific sensations, or motor actions in individuals purely through the power of an influencing mind.
