About the author
Stan Gooch was a British writer who worked at the intersection of psychology and the paranormal, arguing that unexplained phenomena had roots in human biology and prehistory rather than purely occult causes. The Origins of Psychic Phenomena examines poltergeists and related experiences through psychiatric and psychological frameworks, locating their source in the cerebellum and the unconscious mind. His later books, The Dream Culture of the Neanderthals and The Neanderthal Legacy, both published by Inner Traditions, extend this project into a wider and more speculative thesis: that Neanderthal biology and culture, particularly lunar and dream-based traditions, left a lasting genetic and psychological imprint on modern humans. Gooch's work sits outside mainstream anthropology and psychology, proposing controversial hybridization and inheritance theories, but it has retained a readership among those interested in unconventional accounts of human origins and the biological basis of paranormal experience.
