About the author
Robert Temple is a British author, translator, and independent scholar known for The Sirius Mystery, first published in 1976, which argues that the Dogon people of Mali possessed astronomical knowledge of the Sirius star system that could not have been acquired without outside contact, and which he attributes to contact with an ancient extraterrestrial civilization. The book proved highly controversial among Africanists and astronomers and has been reissued in expanded editions with additional supporting material. Temple has since written on ancient science, Chinese invention, and the history of ideas, and in A New Science of Heaven he turns to plasma physics as a possible framework for understanding reported spiritual and mystical experience. His work generally argues that ancient or unconventional science preserves knowledge later ignored or forgotten by mainstream scholarship.
