About the author
Payam Nabarz writes on ancient Persian and Indo-Iranian religion and on ceremonial magic, publishing with Avalonia. Anahita: Ancient Persian Goddess and Zoroastrian Yazata traces the figure of Anahita from pre-Zoroastrian Iranian religion into her continuing place in Zoroastrian practice, describing her iconography and cult. Stellar Magic: A Practical Guide to the Rites of the Moon, Planets, Stars and Constellations takes a different approach, compiling rituals built from classical and medieval sources including the Orphic Hymns, Ovid, Plato's Timaeus and the Hermetica. Together the two books, from 2009 and 2013, show a writer working at the crossing of scholarship and practice: one volume reconstructs a specific ancient deity from historical sources, the other adapts a wide range of ancient texts into usable ceremonial material. Nabarz's books serve readers interested in Zoroastrian and Mithraic religion alongside practitioners of astrological and planetary magic.
