About the author
Osborne Phillips was a British occultist working within the Golden Dawn tradition of Western ceremonial magic, best known for the books he produced with his aunt and magical collaborator Melita Denning under the joint byline Denning and Phillips. Their Magical Philosophy series, including Mysteria Magica and The Sword & the Serpent, sets out a systematic training in ceremonial magic and Qabalah drawn from that lineage, while their Practical Guide to Astral Projection and Practical Guide to Psychic Self-Defense, both published by Llewellyn, are widely used introductory manuals on those specific techniques. The books are instructional rather than historical, written for practitioners working through a structured course of magical training rather than for readers wanting a general history of the occult. They remain in print as standard references within contemporary ceremonial magic and ritual Qabalah, decades after their original publication.
