About the author
Nevit O. Ergin was a Turkish-American physician and translator best known for producing the first complete English translation of Rumi's Divan-i Kebir, working across many volumes from the original Persian and Ottoman Turkish. He was also a student of the Turkish Sufi master Hasan Lutfi Shushud, and his own writing draws on that lineage. The Sufi Path of Annihilation examines the practice of Itlak Yolu, covering breathing exercises, fasting, and the deliberate use of mental suffering as tools within Sufi practice, and includes Shushud's teachings alongside Ergin's commentary on Rumi. Tales of a Modern Sufi collects twenty-four short parables in the modern Sufi storytelling tradition, intended to provoke questioning rather than deliver direct instruction. Ergin's books suit readers already familiar with Sufi literature who want material grounded in a specific teaching lineage rather than a general introduction to Sufism.
