About the author
Matthew Leigh Embleton is a self-published author working in Norse and Icelandic magical traditions. Galdrastafir: A Collection of Icelandic Magical Staves (2025) catalogues the galdrastafir, sigil-like magical symbols recorded in Icelandic manuscripts from the late Middle Ages into the twentieth century, which he traces to the older Germanic practice of bindrunes. A companion volume, Magical Symbolism: Runes, Bindrunes, Galdrastafir, and Astrological Symbols for Magic, broadens the scope to runic and astrological symbols used across historical magical practice, treating them as tools of both expression and divination. Both books are published under Embleton's own name rather than through a commercial press, and they read as reference-style compilations for practitioners of Norse-inspired magic wanting a documented source for specific staves and symbols rather than as general histories of the tradition.
