About the author
Martha Gray writes within Moon Books' Pagan Portals series, a line of short introductory titles on witchcraft and pagan practice. Pagan Portals - Nine's a Charm, published in 2025, looks at plants believed to serve as ingredients in the Galdr Healing Charm, tracing their use from historical magical and medicinal practice into contemporary witchcraft. Her earlier book, Grimalkyn: The Witch's Cat: Power Animals in Traditional Magic, also from Moon Books, examines the cat as a magical power animal, discussing qualities such as independence and cunning traditionally associated with cats in witchcraft. Both books combine folklore and historical material with contemporary pagan practice, characteristic of the Pagan Portals format, which favors compact, accessible volumes over lengthy treatises. Gray's work suits readers already familiar with witchcraft basics who want focused, single-topic titles, whether on plant magic or on animal familiars and power animals within traditional magical practice.
