About the author
John E. Mack (1929-2004) was an American psychiatrist and professor at Harvard Medical School, where he founded the department of psychiatry at Cambridge Hospital. He won the Pulitzer Prize for Biography in 1977 for A Prince of Our Disorder, his study of T. E. Lawrence. Later in his career Mack became known, and controversial within his profession, for clinical research into people reporting alien abduction experiences, which he approached as a psychiatrist rather than as a ufologist, treating the experiences as psychologically significant regardless of their objective cause. His catalogue title, Passport to the Cosmos, listed here in two editions from White Crow Books, lays out this research, arguing that abduction accounts point to a wider, more intelligent universe than conventional science allows for. The book remains his most widely read work on the subject and a reference point in discussions of alien-contact narratives.
