About the author
James H. Holden was an American astrological historian and translator affiliated with the American Federation of Astrologers, known for making classical and medieval astrological texts available in English. Five Medieval Astrologers collects his translations of treatises including Albumasar's Book of Flowers, works attributed to Ptolemy and Hermes Trismegistus, and other medieval centiloquies, giving readers access to primary sources of mundane and horoscopic astrology that would otherwise remain difficult to reach. History of Horoscopic Astrology traces the development of Western horoscopic astrology from its Babylonian origins through its systematization by Alexandrian astrologers into the modern era, with attention to the historical and working conditions surrounding its practitioners. Holden's contribution was chiefly as a translator and historian rather than as a practicing astrologer offering interpretive guidance, and his books remain reference points for readers interested in the documented history of astrology.
