About the author
J Daniel Gunther is the author of a trilogy on initiation and magical practice within the Thelemic tradition founded by Aleister Crowley, published by Ibis Press. "Initiation in the Aeon of the Child" and its sequel "The Angel & the Abyss" examine the two central spiritual crises of Thelemic initiatory work, the Knowledge and Conversation of the Holy Guardian Angel and the crossing of the Abyss, drawing on Jungian psychology, comparative mythology and Crowley's own writings. "The Visions of the Pylons" documents a vision quest built on Crowley's instructions for astral exploration as set out in "Magick in Theory and Practice," presented as a modern grimoire and record of practice. Together the three books form a sustained, densely referenced study of Thelemic initiation aimed at readers already working within, or closely studying, that tradition rather than at newcomers to ceremonial magic.
