About the author
Geraldine Cummins (1890-1969) was an Irish writer and medium known for her automatic writing, through which she produced texts she and others attributed to communication with the deceased. Swan on a Black Sea, her final book, presents scripts said to have come from Winifred Margaret Coombe Tennant, a British suffragette and philanthropist who died in 1956, addressed to Cummins beginning the following year. The Road to Immortality presents material Cummins attributed to Frederic W. H. Myers, a co-founder of the Society for Psychical Research, describing a vision of the afterlife. Both books, reissued by White Crow Books, are central texts in the literature of psychical research on automatic writing and mediumship, studied for what they reveal about the practice and its claims rather than treated as settled fact. Cummins remains one of the most documented mediums associated with early twentieth-century British and Irish psychical research.
