About the author
Eugen Reichl is the author of Project Gemini and Project Mercury, both published by Schiffer Publishing as part of a series on the history of early American spaceflight. Project Mercury covers the origins of the United States' first manned spaceflight program, begun in 1958 while the Soviet Union led the space race, and the rapid development effort at NASA that followed. Project Gemini continues the story into the mid-1960s, covering the ten manned and two unmanned flights that tested techniques such as extravehicular activity, developments the book presents as the turning point that let the United States overtake the USSR in the space race. Both books are illustrated histories aimed at readers interested in the technical and programmatic detail of early American spaceflight rather than general popular science.
