About the author
Colin Henry Wilson (1931–2013) was a prolific English writer, philosopher, and novelist, born in Leicester. A self-taught intellectual, Wilson left school at 16 and spent his early years working various jobs while pursuing his voracious reading and writing. He rose to prominence in 1956 with his debut philosophical work, "The Outsider," which explored existential alienation and the nature of human consciousness, earning him critical acclaim and establishing him as a significant voice in post-war British literature. While initially known for his philosophical and literary criticism, Wilson developed a profound interest in the esoteric, occult, and paranormal throughout his career. His monumental 1971 work, "The Occult: A History," became a foundational text for many, offering a comprehensive and often skeptical yet open-minded survey of magic, mysticism, and the paranormal from ancient times to the modern era.
