About the author
Christian Herrmann is the author of two academic volumes on Egyptian amulets recovered in Palestine and Israel, Ägyptische Amulette aus Palästina/Israel and its sequel Ägyptische Amulette aus Palästina/Israel II, both published by Vandenhoeck & Ruprecht in German. The first grew out of a doctoral thesis submitted to the Theologische Fakultät der Universität Freiburg in Switzerland in 1993, and the two volumes catalogue and interpret amulets from archaeological sites, tracing their forms to ancient Egyptian religious practice and considering how this material was received by the Hebrew Bible. The books belong to biblical archaeology and the history of Near Eastern religion rather than popular occult writing, aimed at scholars and students of ancient Egyptian religion, biblical studies, and the archaeology of the Levant. Readers should expect dense, reference-style German-language scholarship rather than a general introduction.
