About the author
Wilfrid Lay is credited with two related early-twentieth-century titles reissued in modern editions: Man's Unconscious Spirit: The Psychoanalysis of Spiritism, a reprint of a 1921 original, and Man's Unconscious Passion, reprinted from a 1920 edition by both Literary Licensing and, in a scholarly reissue, by Routledge as part of a series on general psychology. The Routledge edition describes the book's scope as covering the unconscious dimension of passion in relation to civilization, family, affection, love, marriage, and the stages of a man's life. Together the two titles apply early psychoanalytic thinking to spiritualism and to human emotional development, reflecting the period's interest in bringing Freudian and related frameworks to bear on both occult phenomena and everyday life. The catalogue gives no further biographical information about Lay beyond these reissued works.
