About the author
Therese M. Shea writes nonfiction for young readers on witchcraft and reputedly haunted sites, published by Rosen Education Service and Gareth Stevens Publishing. Investigating Witches and Witchcraft opens with the pop-culture image of the pointy-hatted crone, from the Wicked Witch of the West onward, and uses it to examine the historical stereotypes and persecution behind the figure of the witch. Haunted! The Queen Mary turns to a single site, tracing the ocean liner's history as a passenger ship and wartime troop transport before covering the paranormal reputation it acquired after being permanently docked. Both books are written for school-age audiences, combining documented history with folklore and reported hauntings in an accessible, educational format. Shea's approach across these titles pairs factual background with the popular legends that have grown up around her subjects, rather than endorsing the legends as fact.
