About the author
Sandra Lawrence is the author of The Magic of Mushrooms: Fungi in Folklore, Superstition and Traditional Medicine and Witch's Garden: Plants in Folklore, Magic and Traditional Medicine, both published by Welbeck. The Magic of Mushrooms surveys fungi through the superstitions, folk tales and traditional and modern medicinal uses attached to them across different cultures. Witch's Garden covers more than 50 plants associated with magical and healing traditions, tracing their use by herbalists, apothecaries and wise women through history. Both books combine folklore, history and traditional medicine in an illustrated reference format, aimed at readers interested in the cultural and historical relationship between plants, fungi and magical belief rather than at practitioners seeking a modern herbalism or foraging manual.
