About the author
Prentice Mulford (1834-1891) was an American writer associated with the New Thought movement, which held that thought and mental attitude shape a person's circumstances and health. After an itinerant early life that included time in California during the gold rush and work as a journalist and humorist, he turned in his later years to essays on mental and spiritual self-help, published serially as White Cross Library pamphlets. Your Forces and How to Use Them, issued across multiple volumes, is his best-known work and a foundational text of New Thought thinking, later reprinted many times, including this Legare Street Press edition drawn from the public-domain original. Mulford's essays are plainly written and aimed at a general readership rather than a specialist one, addressing topics such as will, habit, and the influence of thought on daily life. His work influenced later New Thought and self-help writers and remains in print largely through reprint publishers working from the out-of-copyright text.
