About the author
Neil Douglas-Klotz is a scholar of religious studies known for his work retranslating the sayings of Jesus from their original Aramaic context, an approach set out across his "Aramaic Jesus" series. The Aramaic Jesus Book of Days continues that project as a collection of forty daily contemplations drawn from his translations, while The Sufi Book of Life turns to Sufi tradition, presenting ninety-nine reflections that combine meditation, oracle-style reading, and Sufi poetry and stories aimed at contemporary practice. Douglas-Klotz's work generally argues that Aramaic, the language Jesus likely spoke, carries layers of meaning lost in Greek and Latin translation, and he applies a similar comparative approach to Sufi material. His books are written for readers interested in mystical and contemplative readings of religious texts, combining academic training in Middle Eastern languages and religion with a practice-oriented, devotional tone.
