About the author
Mark Nepo is an American poet, philosopher, and spiritual teacher whose work centers on inner transformation, presence, and the experience of suffering as a doorway to meaning. He is best known for The Book of Awakening, a collection of daily reflections that became a New York Times bestseller and has been reissued in a twentieth-anniversary edition. His other books listed here, including Drinking from the River of Light: The Life of Expression, The Way Under the Way: The Place of True Meeting, and Inside the Miracle: Enduring Suffering, Approaching Wholeness, extend the same concerns into creativity, relationship, and illness, the last drawing directly on his experience with cancer in the late 1980s. Several of his titles are published jointly by St. Martin's Essentials and Sounds True. His most recent book, The Language of the Soul, examines the original meanings of words as a way into spiritual reflection. Nepo's writing blends personal essay, poetry, and short prose meditations rather than doctrine or instruction.
