About the author
Mark Muncy is the author of regional strange-and-supernatural guides published by History Press, including Eerie Appalachia: Smiling Man Indrid Cold, the Jersey Devil, the Legend of Mothman and More (2022) and Creepy Florida: Phantom Pirates, the Hog Island Witch, the DeMented Doctor at the Don Vicente and More (2019). Both books collect local legends and reported paranormal encounters tied to specific places, moving between well-known cryptid lore, such as Mothman and the Jersey Devil, and lesser-known regional ghost stories and haunted sites. The Appalachia title ranges across the mountains from Cold's reported sightings to Mothman's West Virginia origins, while the Florida book works through named haunted locations across the state. The writing leans toward atmosphere and storytelling rather than investigation or analysis, and the books are aimed at readers who enjoy travel-guide-style collections of regional folklore, cryptid sightings, and haunted-site profiles they can read for entertainment or use to plan visits.
