About the author
Magus Incognito is the pseudonym under which The Secret Doctrine of the Rosicrucians first appeared, a book widely though not conclusively attributed to the American New Thought writer William Walker Atkinson. The work sets out the historical claims and philosophical tenets of the Rosicrucian movement, tracing its manifestos back to the 1600s and outlining the symbolic system the brotherhood is said to have used to encode its teachings. Several editions circulate in the current catalogue, including an illustrated Aziloth Books printing with reproductions of Rosicrucian symbols and a Cosimo Classics reprint that situates the material within the broader history of Christian esoteric symbology. The book belongs to a genre of early twentieth-century occult writing that treated secret societies as repositories of hidden knowledge worth decoding for a general readership. Readers interested in the history of Rosicrucianism, or in the wider tradition of pseudonymous occult authorship from this period, will find it a representative primary text rather than a modern scholarly account.
