About the author
John O'Donohue (1956-2008) was an Irish poet, philosopher, and former Catholic priest known for bringing Celtic spiritual tradition to a wide popular readership. He held a doctorate in philosophical theology and drew on Irish language, landscape, and mysticism in books written for general readers rather than specialists. "Anam Cara," his best-known work, takes its title from the Irish term for "soul friend" and explores Celtic ideas of friendship, belonging, and the inner life; it became an international bestseller and appears here in a twenty-fifth anniversary edition. "Eternal Echoes" continues this exploration of longing and belonging, "Beauty: The Invisible Embrace" turns to beauty as a subject in its own right, and "Four Elements" gathers his reflections on the natural world. He also published poetry, represented here by "Conamara Blues," rooted in his native County Galway. O'Donohue died suddenly in 2008, and his books continue to be widely read in the spirituality and Celtic wisdom category.
