About the author
David R. Hawkins was an American psychiatrist and author best known for Power vs. Force (1995) and for developing the Map of Consciousness, a hierarchical scale assigning numerical calibrations to emotional and spiritual states, which he presented as measurable through applied kinesiology. Hay House has continued to publish material drawn from his lecture series after his death in 2012, including recent titles such as Karma and Devotion, Spiritual Power and Integrity, Beyond Illusion, and The Final Doorway to Enlightenment, each built from his Way to God talks and covering topics including perception, ego, devotion, and prayer within his consciousness framework. The Power vs. Force Deck adapts the concepts of his best-known book into a 44-card format. Across his work, Hawkins presents spiritual development as a progression through defined levels of consciousness, moving from lower emotional states toward higher ones associated with love and surrender, addressed to readers already engaged with his broader teaching system or drawn to it through Power vs. Force.
